The purpose of this project is follow on from WRAPs previous work on increasing the amount of glass that goes back into remelt applications in the UK. This includes, for example, guidance on collections, consumer perception work on containers made from mixed colour cullet and work on glass from Material Recovery Facilities (MRF). The aim is to work to manufacture containers with a very high recycled content using mixed colour cullet, and thus divert glass collected in a mixed colour format from landfill or aggregate applications.
In addition this project aims at understanding where market failures exist that inhibit the production of high recycled content containers from mixed colour cullet.
