Of the three main waste streams, Clinical, Domestic and Miscellaneous Waste, it is the last category, Miscellaneous Waste is the only area covered under this category.
The Trust are inviting Expressions of Interest to cover this final category only.
There are a number of ad hoc arrangements for the myriad of waste requirements currently in place. There is a need to consolidate these under one umbrella contract. The Trust's interpretation of this area includes, but is not exhaustive to:
— Luminaries (of various types),
— Glass,
— Timber,
— Food Waste,
— Cooking Oil,
— Paper,
— Confidentail Waste including: Paper, Floppy Disks, IT products,
— Carboard,
— Batteries as defined under HTM Guidance, including: Alkaline, Lithium, Zinc Air, Zinc Carbon,
— Green Waste,
— White Goods,
— Scrap Metal,
— Building Materials Waste,
— Used, Unwanted Carpets and Carpet Tiles.
The Trust will look to suppliers as experts in their field to advise the most cost effective and carbon efficient mehtods of disposal. This may include the use of compactors for certain waste streams. Use of compactors may assist in reducing journeys to and from site, itself a carbon reduction in petrol/diesel particulates. Adherence to all waste management legislation is required for, and during the life of the contrsact, which is anticipated for an initial 5 year period and with an option to extend to a 6th and/or 7th year.
It is unlikely the Trust will consider letting this contract to other than a sole supply. At the Invitation to Tender stage, innovative proposals are expected to assist the Trust in reducing its waste, therefore this exercise will not be purely on who provides the lowest price per tonne of disposal. Any measures which help reduce waste (and therefore the carbon buden) will be helpful.
