  ESFRS operates a 24/7 emergency response and it is therefore of the utmost importance that the availability of its fleet of over 50 heavy and over 100 light vehicles is maintained at a high level of readiness at all times.

  The heavy fleet is predominantly fire appliances and light fleet cars, vans, 4x4 vehicles plus a few specialist vehicles. There are also over 25 000 separate items of operational equipment to be maintained.

  Currently on average there are over one hundred vehicle related accidents per year.

  To complement the ESFRS current staffing arrangements and its logistical operational commitments the service provider must therefore demonstrate that he has a dedicated centralised workshop facility and staffing levels to meet this overriding requirement.
