This tender brief has been issued by Capital Region Tourism on behalf of the Valleys Partnership to deliver the Community Tourism element of the wider Valleys Regional Park (VRP) project which has received funding from the European Convergence Funding under the Environment for Growth priority.
Community based tourism is an important component of a comprehensive approach to the development of the valleys as a tourism destination. In this context the valleys are considered to include some or all of the local authority areas of Carmarthenshire, Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen. The Valleys Partnership has successfully secured European Convergence Funding under the Environment for Growth priority and has specifically focused on community based tourism as one of its themes. The project is one of a series of Convergence Funding bids aimed at developing the tourism product within Wales and in particular, within the south Wales valleys area.
The funding available provides a unique opportunity to take a fresh approach to tourism development in the valleys with particular focus on developing community engagement, raising confidence and pride through education and training.
