The Authority is issuing this Prior Information Notice (PIN) regarding the intention, shortly, to issue a Possible Future Purchase (PFP) Notice, for a competition to replace the existing SMRE capability. This PIN is NOT a request for expressions of interest and the requirement will be outlined in the PFP notice. SMRE is used to provide airfield ground management allowing air traffic control (ATC) to direct the safe movement of vehicles and personnel on the airfield manoevring area. It is also used in a secondaery role to provide direct communications between ATC and support sections eg guard services, medical centre, refuellers and fire crews.
The Authority previously advertised the SMRE Capabitity replacement programme in January 2011 but had to discontinue the tender in March 2012. Full details of the likely value and requirements will the included in the PFP but the aim of the project is to replace the current SMRE system and to support the Leaky Feeder systems also currently in use.
